Preschool Coach, Mesa Public Schools

As an internal coach for the LEAP program, I have witnessed firsthand its incredible power to transform inclusive classrooms. LEAP’s structured, tiered approach to social interactions unlocks invaluable peer modeling opportunities, driving meaningful growth and ensuring that every student is not just included, but truly engaged and thriving. It’s a game-changer for any educational setting looking to foster social and academic success for all learners.

Preschool Coach, Mesa Public Schools

Working in an inclusive LEAP program allows students with and without disabilities to learn from each other. My work within the classroom has changed knowing that teaching specific social skills, working social skills into daily routines, and ensuring all students’ needs are met with individual preparation and planning is attainable. Encouraging peer interactions with students using targeted social skills and social routines are a critical and unique component of LEAP. The change in students who struggle with social communication, imitation, and independent skills is amazing to watch!

Teacher, Multnomah Early Childhood Programs

During my time as a LEAP teacher, I have seen the great impact that this program can have for children and families. When you talk to families about what they hope for their child in preschool, they will tell you that they want their child to make friends. I have witnessed how the intentional teaching of social skills does just this. It allows children of all abilities to make friends and experience what it is to be included in their classroom. Additionally, with the program placing an emphasis on intentional teaching practices and individualization, I have been able to witness children making progress on their goals at levels that I have not seen in other preschool classrooms. As a teacher, the support from my LEAP coach has been incredible in being able to consistently implement the program and I feel very privileged to work in a place where teachers are given the support they need to help children grow.
